Verdant Blossoms

Verdant buds blossoming
up up towards white light
High above the flittering and
falling snow. Tossed like
Goddess tears dripping into
the whirring rush of crushed ice
over rocks. The child’s bones
creaking beneath pantaloons,
pressing out from under. Bare
ankles chilled in early spring
air, the signs of toddlerhood in
Somerset mountains off the
interstate of choice & pavement.

Scabs scrape elbows like the
rustle of
Crocuses poking their heads
up through crusts and tufts of
snow over dank early slowly
emerging from its winter,
dormant slumber.

Forest life lifts its voice like
the new child seeking out
adventure and embracing
nature’s nights and days
after the sleep of a thousand
dreamless nights.

Crystalline air bit at her lungs
spread out on wings of
spring breath blowing new life into
Persephone’s journey up &
out from below to above
towards starless wonders of
creaking life like the
sun rolling across the horizon
to another day.

A day of dripping dew to
dry anew
lime and rose leaves poking
from stark
crackling branches thawing
through rays of warmth
that pierced azure clouds
slate grey with winter wear.

A slushing fluid spilling out
as a sign of spring again.

Moss clings to rocks, boulders like
sleeping giants slumbering in the
lush mountainside with
laurel growing up out of the
cracks. Greens & browns
drying, crackling from slippery
morning dew like tiny
tiny fingers of the newborn
poking open to white blind
light of a first day – a new day.
