haikus from Delaware
The red embers glows
across the hazy night sky.
Smoke drifts through the clouds.
Snapper’s air bubbles
Break the ponds icy surface
As we drop our traps.
Ducks land on the dock.
The red canoe tied nearby
Target for their shit.
Brittle leaves fall from
Sycamore tree high above
The tepid water.
Sleek canoe oars pull
through lake early morning haze.
The crews breath blows white.
The minnow flips down
the blackened waterfall
escaping prison.
The Wood Duck hut juts
From the shallow water’s edge
Stolen by Blue Jays.
