So much work…

Date March 3, 2008

Shirley and I do this to ourselves all of the time. We assign all these wonderful projects for the kids, and then everything comes due around the same time. Allusion Notebooks are always third quarter now, because if there’s an issue we can’t so it second quarter because of semester grades. First quarter is too early, and by fourth quarter AP tests and SAT tests are finished for the year. So last week we had Lexicons, Allusion Notebooks, Mock Trials, and SynQs all due. As one young man pointed out, we had over 500 points due within a week. I tried to bring some levity to the situation, and I tried to get the kids to see things from our perspective, so I put together the following. (Now remember this was from Friday morning, 1 full week before grades are due. Enjoy.)

.06    LINES PER SECOND WE NEED TO GRADE TO FINISH ON TIME
1.18    LINES PER MINUTE WE NEED TO GRADE TO FINISH ON TIME
6        PARTS PER EACH ENTRY
7          DAYS UNTIL GRADES DUE
50        ENTRIES PER LEXICON WE NEED TO GRADE
80~    NUMBER OF LEXICONS THE STUDENTS SUBMITTED
142.01 LINES PER HOUR TO FINISH ON TIME
169       HOURS TO GRADE
3,408  LINES PER DAY THAT NEED TO BE GRADED
